Scott is an inspirational little boy from Koolyanobbing in Western Australia.
We don’t know this little living legend personally, but have followed his awesomeness over the years as he has remained determined to raise money for Telethon and help other kids.
Each year, starting in 2010, Scott has gone on a great big walk. And along the way, people have sponsored his efforts with all proceeds going via Telethon towards child health research.
So why write about Scott on this blog? Well, where Scott lives, and the town he walks into (Southern Cross) is on the Great Eastern Highway, the major route from Perth to Kalgoorlie and the usual way that most people travel between the east and the west.
We’ve been through Southern Cross many times, and even stayed overnight with camper troubles, but that’s another story.
By writing this blog post, we are hopeful that fellow travellers and campers will think about little Scott walking that long, lonely road in the bush. He really sets the example that anyone can do something to help others.
Here’s an excerpt from Scott’s fundraising page.
Scott (8 years old) started fundraising for Telethon at the tender age of 4 after learning about fundraising at Kindy. Scott walked 25km in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2013, aged 7, Scott decided to walk a “little” further and walked 41km in 12 hours and 40 minutes, taking over 80,000 steps.
Scott has decided this year he will walk “Scott’s Marathon for Telethon” and on the 19th of July he will walk 42.195km down the Koolyanobbing Road to the Southern Cross Oval. In the past 4 years Scott has raised just over $47,000 for Telethon and he is hoping that with this year’s Marathon he will be able to raise a lot more.
And here is a little more of what his parents have to say –
In times when he has wanted to give up, it has been thinking of the sick kids and babies, and everyone believing in him and supporting him, that has kept him going. He does this for no other reason than he wants to help. Scott says, “When I grow up I want to be a Baby Doctor, but my job for now is to walk.”
On the weekend just gone, Scott did just that. He walked 42.195km on those little eight-year-old legs. I bet there aren’t many people who have ever walked that far in one day (that includes us).
I really think that there is a great little Aussie explorer in Scott, with a fantastic community ethos. How could we not support this boy from the bush?
Our big wide world could learn a lot from this little legend.
On ya’ Scott.
So please, help Scott reach his goal by donating via his Everyday Hero page, and help him to help others.
