Lake Eyre

The Lake was the original motivation that started the plans for this amazing trip. Whilst we have done so many other things already, the Lake was something we really wanted to see.  From the window of a light plane, we saw Coopers Creek crossing, the Birdsville track and then the amazing lake (north and south) and local wetlands.  There is just SO MUCH water.  The colours range from white to pink then greens and silver.  Our flight was 7:30am so we saw the beautiful morning light over the lake.  Even a rookery of baby pelicans (easily 100 or more) being watched over by a handful of adult pelicans while the others were away feeding.

A scenic flight is definitely the way to appreciate the size and beauty of the lake. From the ground you sense it is big but from the air it really is an incredible inland sea.
